Masterclasses and concert with Petri Juutilainen (FIN)
18.-19.01. and 04.-06.04.2014 Finnish trombonist, composer and conductor Petri Juutilainen is visiting Tartu and working with Big Band Tartu. The result of the work will be seen on concert on Sunday 06.04.2014 at 4pm in Tartu New Theatre.


Petri Juutilainen (born 1953) studied trombone and composing & orchestration at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki between years 1972-1981. He started playing also with the UMO Big Band at 1975 and turned into free lancing at 1983, playing studio sessions and arranging music for several artists and orchestras in Finland. He also studied short periods in New York with different teachers; trombone with Sam Burtis, Jimmy Knepper and Carmine Caruso and arranging with Manny Albam.

1992 he was engaged as the conductor of Helsinki Police Band and 2002 he started as the director of Pop/ Jazz department at the Pirkanmaa Music Institute in Tampere, Finland.

He has visited as a quest conductor practically in all finnish professional symphony orchestras and he is very busy also teaching pop/jazz - basics to many finnish amateur big bands and wind orchestras.
